Updated Policies to Reflect Best HR Practices

JUN 05, 2021

The following handbook policies reflect HR best practices and/or regulatory changes. You may wish to update your own handbook policies based on the information below or reach out to your local Payroll Vault for guidance.

Here's what been updated:

CO      Equal Employment            This policy, which applies to employers of all sizes, has been updated to include gender expression as a protected characteristic. We recommend employers update this policy during their next handbook review and make managers aware in the meantime.

KY      Adoption Leave      This policy, which applies to employers of all sizes, has been updated to allow adoption leave for children under the age of 10 (instead of seven). We recommend employers update this policy during their next handbook review and make sure that managers are made aware in the meantime.

OK      Military Leave         This is a new policy, which applies to employers of all sizes and covers Oklahoma's new law providing employment protections to employees who take leave to serve with a state military organization. We recommend adding this policy during your next handbook review and ensuring managers are made aware in the meantime.

MA      Blue Laws    This policy, which applies to retail employers with eight or more employees, has been updated to include Juneteenth as a covered holiday. Employers should update their handbooks during their next review and ensure that managers and those responsible for payroll are made aware of the change immediately.

MT      Equal Employment            This policy, which applies to employers of all sizes, has been updated to include vaccination status or having an immunity passport. We recommend employers update their handbooks during their next review but ensure that managers and those involved in hiring decisions are made aware in the meantime.

NY      Sick Leave - Accrual         This is a new policy, which applies to all employers in New York, that grants four hours of paid leave for each COVID-19 vaccination shot an employee receives. We recommend adding this to your handbook or otherwise distributing it to employees as soon as possible.
